Thailand saltwater Flyfishing

If you’re looking for something new and exciting, join the new breed of fishermen who are Fly fishing from a kayak. All of the benefits of kayak fishing applies to fly fishing from a kayak. You’re closer to Nature, you’re able to sneak up closer to the fish and you’re able to get close enough to other aspects of Nature to truly appreciate the beauty of your surrounding.

You can choose from kayaking in a single-person sit-on-top kayak or having a guide paddle for you in a two-person kayak. If you choose a latter option, you can concentrate on fishing.

This is the method that’s most enjoyable in the mangrove forests and tidal rivers. We do the paddling, you do the fishing… no need to anchor or make corrections due to the wind. You just fish!

Even smaller species are fun to catch on a fly rod. Mullet are plentiful in the mangrove forests and they put up a very good fight. You not only have the opportunity to catch smaller fish; big fish frequent the mangrove too. Barracuda and Barramundi sometimes hide amongst the mangrove roots or cruise these channels in search of a quick meal too.

Unlike freshwater fly fishing, the flies used in saltwater tend to mimic small fish, shrimp or crabs. You’ll use much larger flies than freshwater fishermen use.

It is not only the mangrove which produces fish for the saltwater fly fisherman. There are plenty of beaches with fringing reefs. Wading and casting flies is thrilling as well. This also gives you a larger variety of fish to target. In fact, there are a multitude of reef fish that will readily hit a fly. We do not like to keep most reef fish, so we practice catch and release. However, the open-water species that visit the reefs to eat are available to keep.
